Supreme Court Presses NTA on NEET-UG 2024 Results

In a significant session on Tuesday, the Supreme Court addressed a petition calling for the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exams amid allegations of a paper leak. The court declared that the “integrity of the exams has been compromised” and insisted, “we need answers.

” The bench, including Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, denied the request to suspend the NEET UG 2024 counselling process. When Senior Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara sought to pause the counselling, Justice Nath responded, “Let it begin. We are not stopping the counseling.
Integrity Under Scrutiny
“It’s not that simple. Just because it’s done doesn’t make it inviolable. The integrity has been compromised, so we need answers,” Justice Amanullah firmly stated to the NTA’s counsel. The bench has listed the matter for further hearing on July 8 and mentioned that if additional time is required to prepare a response, the court may halt the counselling process.
Court Notice and Advocate Statements
In response to the Supreme Court’s notice to the NTA, advocate J Sai Deepak highlighted, “Multiple petitions have been filed in the Court. Some were lodged before the results were announced, alleging a paper leak. Notices have been issued for these petitions and a separate petition from Alakh Pandey, CEO of Physics Wallah.
Challenge Over Arbitrary Grace Marks
“Our petition is slightly different. Representing Alakh Pandey, who has gathered signatures from about 20,000 students, we’ve identified that approximately 70 to 80 marks were randomly awarded as grace marks to at least 1,500 students. We are challenging this arbitrary awarding of grace marks. The court has indicated that our issue will also be addressed with the other matters, but it clearly stated that the counseling process will not be halted at this stage,” he elaborated.
