Election Results 2024 | Samajwadi Party Resurges in Uttar Pradesh as INDIA Bloc Outpaces NDA

Samajwadi Party come back again in Uttar Pradesh as INDIA Bloc Outpaces NDA

From securing five seats in the last election in alliance with the BSP, Akhilesh Yadav’s faction in U.P. has dealt a significant blow to the BJP, which had in 2019 clinched 62 seats independently.

The Samajwadi Party and Congress of the INDIA bloc are leading in 34 and 7 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission’s data for polls to the 80 parliamentary constituencies indicated. The BJP-led NDA is ahead in 35 seats. READ | Rahul Gandhi Poised To Win Raebareli, Surpassing Sonia’s Victory Margin

Rahul Gandhi – expected to contest Amethi but chose Raebareli, left vacant after his mother, Sonia Gandhi, moved to the Rajya Sabha – finished a record 3.9 lakh votes ahead of the BJP’s Dinesh Singh.

Samajwadi Party’s UP Significant Performance

The SP today accomplished what neither the Congress nor the BSP could in the previous two national or state elections – defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in UP. This is not, however, an unexpected outcome.

In the 2022 Assembly election, the BJP was dominant; Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party secured 255 of the state’s 417 seats. The closest competitor, though, was the SP, which won 111 seats.

Mr. Yadav’s party’s tally then was a substantial 64-seat increase from five years ago and was driven, to a significant extent, by the farmers’ protests that unsettled the BJP’s ‘double-engine government’. That surge of support appears to have extended into this election.

UP Lok Sabha Election Results: What Exit Polls Indicated
UP has emerged as the big surprise in this election. A poll of exit polls had suggested the BJP would continue its dominant showing in the state with 68 seats won by the party and NDA allies.

The INDIA coalition was expected to secure just 12 seats. In fact, Republic Bharat-Matrize and India Today-Axis My India predicted the bloc could manage as few as six seats.

There was, however, one that defied the prediction trend. TV5 Telugu stated the opposition group would claim a narrow majority with 43 seats.

The Samajwadi Party is contesting as part of the Congress-led INDIA opposition coalition, which was established in June last year to unseat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP. READ | INDIA Bloc’s UP Seat Agreement Finalized, Congress Gets 17 Seats

The SP has fielded 63 candidates and the Congress 17. This seat-sharing arrangement made headlines when announced as it was the first by members of the INDIA bloc and came after unsuccessful attempts in other states, as well as a contentious breakdown in negotiations between the Congress and the Trinamool in Bengal.

Haryana
In Haryana, the BJP lagged behind the Congress as the two parties led in four and six seats, respectively.

Rajasthan
The BJP was ahead in 14 seats in Rajasthan against the eight seats of the Congress.

Bihar
In Bihar, the BJP-JD(U)-LJP(R) coalition appeared to be in a strong position against the RJD-Congress-Left alliance.

The EC data showed the ruling party ahead in 31 of its 40 seats. In 2019, they had won 39 seats.
