Hansi Flick has been officially announced as Barcelona’s new manager, with the former Bayern Munich boss signing a two-year deal at Camp Nou.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The German coach put pen to paper at Barcelona’s club offices on Wednesday, ushering in a new chapter for the Catalan giants. Flick will lead the team until 2026 after finalizing a two-year agreement following numerous discussions with sporting director Deco and club president Joan Laporta.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
As per BBC Sport, Barcelona initiated talks with Flick “at least two months ago,” and a preliminary agreement had been in place for quite some time. This suggests that Barcelona was already in negotiations with Flick when they initially convinced Xavi to remain with the club until 2025 in late April.

WHAT WAS SAID
Barcelona issued an official statement confirming Flick’s appointment, which reads: “FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached a consensus for the German to take charge of the men’s first team until June 30, 2026. The new coach signed the contract at the Club’s offices, accompanied by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice president responsible for the sporting area, Rafa Yuste, and the Club’s sporting director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco. By appointing Hansi Flick, FC Barcelona has selected a manager known for his high-pressing, intense, and daring style of play, which has brought him significant success at both club and international levels, winning virtually everything there is to win in football.”

DID YOU KNOW?
Flick clinched the treble with Bayern Munich in 2020, steering the Bavarian powerhouse to the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League titles. However, his subsequent tenure with the German national team was less fruitful, as they were eliminated in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup.
